Our pledge to protect Ancient and Endangered Forests with CanopyStyle
Exciting news! We’ve signed up to CanopyStyle and Pack4Good, a global initiative to protect Ancient and Endangered Forests.
Our mission at Leisurely is to set ambitious new standards for sustainability to protect our shared planet, recognising the vital importance of all the earth’s ecosystems. While we’re doing our best to reduce our impacts on the environment, we know that there’s a long way to go, and partnering with CanopyStyle and Pack4Good is just one way we aim to hold ourselves accountable and do things better.
What are CanopyStyle and Pack4Good?
The CanopyStyle and Pack4Good initiatives act to address the growing climate and biodiversity crises by committing to keep Ancient and Endangered Forests out of the paper packaging and Man-made Cellulosic Fibre (MMCF) supply chains. The commitments currently represent over 403 and 547 brand partners respectively. Together the initiatives are shifting supply chains away from vital forests to low-impact, circular Next Gen Solutions.
Why have we signed up?
By working with CanopyStyle and Pack4Good we will gain another level of accountability for our practices. We believe as a business it’s not enough for us to say we’re doing our best for the planet. We want to be held to account by the experts in our industry, and to learn from them how we can improve. We also seek to be part of a wider community of businesses with shared goals, to amplify our efforts in protecting Ancient and Endangered Forests.
What does this mean for Leisurely?
We have already opted to work with Lenzing’s TENCEL™ Lyocell, a wood-based fibre which uses some of the best available environmental production practices in commercial textiles. However, we have ambitious goals for sustainability and as part of our pledge with CanopyStyle we aim to use even better Next Gen fabric solutions in the future. We’re looking towards a regenerative future that isn’t just about reducing negative environmental impacts, but seeks positive solutions that repair ecosysytems.
We are also excited to work with Pack4Good to improve our packaging sourcing. Paper packaging is a key driver of forest loss globally, as 3.1 billion trees are cut down annually to produce the boxes and bags that products are packaged and shipped in. Paper packaging production has increased 65% over the past two years, with main drivers being the rise in e-commerce and necessary shifts away from plastic. While we have opted to work with recycled packaging, we will seek more sustainable solutions and work with our suppliers to improve the transparency of our packaging sourcing.
